  • New Wedding Slideshows!

    Ξ April 15th, 2009 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Weddings |

We’ve updated the site with two great new wedding slideshows!

The first, seen here,  is from this past weekend.

We arrived Friday afternoon, greeted by a mixture of snow flurries and sunshine, to hear that the wedding would definitely be held outside.  Between the snowy ceremony and indoor reception, the sun came out in full force and we headed to the lake. I’m not sure which weather I liked better!

The second slideshow is from late last year (click here to view). The ceremony was held at Mission Dolores Church (right down the street from the studio) while the reception took place at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel in downtown San Francisco. I especially love the photos from the Starlight Room (towards the end).

Wedding Photographs from Seascape Resort and Costanoa

    Ξ October 16th, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Weddings |

I’ve been working on a couple of select new images and thought that it would be fun to share them. The first one was photographed at Debra & Andrew’s wedding at Seascape Resort in Aptos. After the wedding reception we had them jump in the pool :) I love this photograph!!! we’re blowing it up almost life size for studio display! The second image is from Megan & Kirk’s wedding at Costanoa along highway 1. We took a short hike for some amazing scenic portraits and this is one of my favorites.
    Enjoy!

    Beth & Mike Wedding Slideshow

    Ξ October 8th, 2008 | → 1 Comments | ∇ Weddings |

Beth & Mike had a beautiful wedding at Elliston winery in Sunol, California. They were so much fun to photograph and the whole day just went perfectly. Even when the officiant forgot to have them exchange the rings! Another priceless memory… So here’s our second slideshow giving you a taste of what we’ve been up to in 2008!

    Enjoy!

    Wedding Photograph of the Month!

    Ξ August 22nd, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ General Update, Weddings |

I entered another print in competition this month at the Professional Photographers of the Greater Bay Area where I have the honor of serving on the board of directors.  And guess what!  Ok so it already said it in the post title… I got print of the month in the wedding category!!!!  So without further ado, here’s the image:

    Romance

“Romance Under Light” taken at Ruby Hills Golf Club on August 3rd at the beautiful wedding of Lyndsey & Dan

There were just a couple of critiques of the image which have actually been fixed already on this version… except, I need a new title!  So if you have any title suggestions, I’m all ears.  I’d like to send this print in to the national competitions and a better title would go a long way!  Thanks for all your support!  :)

    Mari & Don’s Wedding

    Ξ April 15th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Weddings |

Wow, what a fabulous wedding! Mari & Don were married at the Valley Presbyterian Church in Portola Valley. This was the first time I’ve had a chance to work there and I must say it’s a gorgeous church with a full wall of windows looking into the woods. The reception was held at the Peninsula Golf & Country Club in San Mateo, which is also a stunning locale. Below are some of my favorite images after artistic enhancement.

    0000-mp-w-art.jpg
This is a fun montage I made while brainstorming for which print to enter in competition this month. I’m also playing around with some new techniques I learned at WPPI.

    0513-mp-w-art.jpg
Mari looked just stunning on her wedding day!

    0578-sr-w-art.jpg
They rented a Lamorghini as a getaway car. It was a lot of fun to use as a prop. This is one of my favorites which Sandra actually captured. I enhanced it with cross processing.

    0828-mp-w-art.jpg
This is an old technique made new again that I’ve been trying to start capturing at all my church/indoor weddings. I use a remote flash to give a beautiful silhouetted glow to the bride and her father as they walk down the aisle.

    1024-mp-w-art.jpg
You can see what a beautiful church this is. However the lighting is all wrong… someone needs to bring in a photographer when they’re designing these things ;) I had to double process the image to get the trees to be their natural color as well as the people. Otherwise either the people turn yellow or the trees turn blue.

    1242-mp-w-art.jpg
They had a really fun bridal party. We lost a couple here and there but they were all really fun :)

    1336-mp-w-art.jpg
Another great photograph in a classic style. I’m trying to bring back the best elements of classic photographers, techniques that have been largely lost or forgotten.

    1366-mp-w-art-v2.jpg
So this is the image I ended up deciding to use for print competition this month. Obviously one of my favorites and hopefully the judges will agree!

    1705-mp-w-art.jpg
I just had my infrared camera re-calibrated and it’s a joy to use. The source image is actually black and white and then this is enhanced back closer to how the camera sees it.

    1749-mp-w-art.jpg
This is definitely one of my favorite images from the day.

    1755-mp-w-art.jpg
They’re such a good looking couple!

    1842-mp-w-art.jpg
The bridesmaids were very patient with me, even while we were all freezing cold! And look what a cute image! See, it was worth it ;)

    1857-mp-w-art.jpg
I’ve been told I was lucky that the bride’s brother was wearing underwear on this day!

    1889-mp-w-art.jpg
Wow!  Another one of my favorites!  Ok so yes these are all my favorites and that’s why they’re in the blog… But still!

    1903-mp-w-art.jpg
I’m starting to play around with adding little scroll effects and such. Feedback is appreciated. I think it looks great!

    2331-mp-w-art.jpg
This is a fantastic image taken from the balcony. I added a little extra blur to everyone around them.

    2606-mp-w-art-v2.jpg
This was really beautiful sweeping pathway just on the side of the main entrance. I managed to sneak them out there for a minute at the very end of the night.

    2711-mp-w-art.jpg
Sparklers always make a striking getaway. I actually got lucky on this one with someone else’s flash helping enhance my own photograph.

Thanks Mari & Don and Congratulations!!!!!

    Marilyn & Gary Engagement Session

    Ξ April 11th, 2008 | → 2 Comments | ∇ Engagements, Portraits, Weddings |

It’s that beautiful time of year again with the cherry blossoms in full bloom and love in the air! We’ve got engagement sessions almost every week and sometimes two, so you should see lots of updates in the blog. This is the latest engagement session which included stops at Golden Gate Park and then the Legion of Honor and finally China Beach. It was another gorgeous day and another stunning sunset. Enjoy!

    030-mp-e-art.jpg
Marilyn and Gary started off a little bit shy (as does almost everyone) but they warmed up and started having fun very quickly.

    088-mp-e-art.jpg
Here I’m trying out a new technique I learned recently using a video light which after color correction subsequently turns the background blue. I think it’s a really cool effect.

    152-mp-e-art.jpg
This is one of my favorite photos of the day. It’s got a great sense of perspective with foreground, middle and background all lending to the beauty of the image.

    237-mp-e-art.jpg
I don’t know quite what it is, but I always love the cross process look. Especially at the beach!

    331-mp-e-art.jpg
I need a thesaurus… how many other words are there for beautiful/gorgeous/stunning sunsets?

    436-mp-e-art.jpg
I really like this image too :)

    575-mp-e-art.jpg
Aren’t they just so cute in love!

Kerry and Marks Wedding - Julia Morgan Ballroom

    Ξ March 4th, 2008 | → 0 Comments | ∇ Weddings |

Kerry & Mark were wed March 1st in the lobby of the Merchant Exchange Building with the Reception following upstairs in the Julia Morgan Ballroom. We took the getting ready photos at the Omni hotel up the street on California and we also went down to the Embarcadero for some really beautiful bridal party portraits. These are some of my favorites:

    0016-mp.jpg

    Wow what beautiful rings

    0030-mp.jpg

    And a beautiful dress too!

    0313-mp.jpg

    Kerry looked so amazing!

    0430-mp.jpg

This was their “first sighting” in the lobby of the Omni.

    0470-mp.jpg

They both had to wipe away the tears!

    0580-mp.jpg

This was taken in the lobby of the Omni.

    0637-mp.jpg

This was taken on the street outside. The Merchant’s Exchange & Julia Morgan Ballroom are in the building across the street.

    0776-mp.jpg

We went down to the Embarcadero for these beautiful photos.  I think this one is my favorite.

    0813-mp.jpg

This was taken with our special infrared camera. Notice how the satin of the bridesmaids black dresses reflects the infrared light and turns them white.

    0855-mp.jpg

Such a fantastic looking bridal party!

    0967-mp.jpg

Kerry was of course the rock star of the day! She had such an amazing smile and energy all day long!

    0982-mp.jpg

    Another stunning photograph of Kerry.

    0990-mp.jpg

    And another :)

    1026-mp.jpg

This was again taken with the infrared camera.

    1100-mp.jpg

We were a little worried it was going to rain, but it turned out to be such a beautiful sunny day!

    1182-mp.jpg

This is taken by the fireplace upstairs in the Julia Morgan Ballroom.

    1830-mp.jpg

We ventured into the ballroom before all the guests and captured this amazing photograph on the dancefloor.
